LET ME INTRODUCE SOHAM

At SOHAM we believe that yoga can change lives and we exist to help present and future generations feel better in their mind, body and spirit by awakening their innate capacity for self-healing and personal transformation through yoga. We teach lifelong, practical tools of yoga and meditation and ways to integrate them into our daily lives. We believe that everyone should have access to the transformative experiences of yoga and meditation and we work with schools, sponsors, non-profits, teachers, and community leaders to bring yoga and mindfulness to young people and everyone involved in the life of a child or young person.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

Teens and children are struggling with mental health now more than ever, but many continue to struggle alone due to cultural stigma surrounding mental illness and the lack of access to meaningful and continuous care. In this time of increased anxiety, bullying, trauma, and isolation our youth need practical tools such as yoga and mindfulness more than ever to give them agency over their own health and well-being.

​NOT GETTING HELP
According to the NHS 75% of young people struggling with mental health won't get the help they need. That percentage is unacceptable to us so we're working to empower as many children and teens as possible with practical mental health tools that they can use in their daily lives.

$200 - $350

TOO EXPENSIVE
The cost of 1 on 1 talk therapy can range from $200 - $350 per session. Making it so expensive that many people opt instead to suffer through difficulties in silence. Our programs offer high impact, low cost interventions that serve the wellbeing of all young people.

TRAUMA IN CHILDREN
1 in 6 children across socio-economic lines experience 4 or more ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) making them more likely to suffer from obesity, depression, and drug abuse. Yoga and meditation helps young people develop the resilience and skills to grow into happy and healthy adults.

Future Leaders's experience with Tiffany was nothing short of amazing!  Tiffany guided our students through a yoga workshop focusing on mental health and mindset. Highlighting her compassion and dedication; Tiffany took time to focus individually on each student ensuring they understood the techniques, background of the movements and also pushed them to challenge their own physical and mental limits. Our youth group was truly enriched and inspired by Tiffany’s knowledge and kind spirit.  Our workshop was an 11 out of 10! I would recommend her!

Miss Tiffany was the best person I could of gotten as a yoga instructor. She was very open with us about her personal side and things that must of been hard to tell us, but it helped us all to better connect with her and see how powerful yoga really is. She perfectly explained and demonstrated the true meanings and purposes behind yoga, and helped everyone to become more comfortable with themselves and be more expressive and open. She helped us all find ways to deal with our problems and be happier. I hope I can spend more time with Miss Tiffany and learn as much from her as I can.

At SOHAM we believe that yoga is a life science, best integrated into our daily lives and we practice what we teach. We know that a regular practice creates mental clarity and calmness; and relieves chronic stress patterns. Which is why our yoga teachers have a regular yoga practice that ensures that we're committed to our personal growth.

PROVEN RESULTS
We surveyed our participants and have learned from our pilot after-school program and mid-term camp that 100% of our participants benefited from our yoga and mindfulness programs. Teens that go through our programs self report that they are less  anxious, experience greater calm and peace, and feel better in their mind.
WHERE DID MY YOGA JOURNEY BEGIN?

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
At three low points in my life, well-meaning friends suggested I try yoga. At the time I dismissed their suggestions completely because I thought yoga was for white, privileged, skinny women with time on their hands. I honestly thought, "Who recommends yoga for depression!" But at 25 my mom lost her battle with cancer and I hit rock bottom. At the time I didn't know it, but my grief was manifesting physically and I started suffering from shortness of breath, neck pains, and severe chest pains.

​But there was no relief in conventional western medicine. After multiple tests and scans could not find the source of the pain, I tried yoga as a last resort, and it saved my life. Through yoga I was able to regain control of my breath, body and mind. And overtime I was able to release emotions and pain that I had been bottling up since I was a teenager.

You see, from age 11 up until I was 21, I suffered in silence from depression, but my story isn't unique. The NHS says 75% of children and teens struggling with mental health don’t get the help they need. So I plan to change that. Because I know that if I had discovered yoga and meditation when I was teenager that the quality of my life would have better sooner. I know I would've been a happier and stronger kid. So it's my mission, joy, and goal to give back what I wish I had when I was growing up. Through my regular yoga practice I have healed in unexpected and lasting ways and I have gained so much that I now look to pay it forward wherever I can. ​
